History: | Highest peak in the vicinity E of the Continental Diver, 3 mi to the W. Named for Victorio, a Warm Springs Apache Indian Chief who lived in the area in the 1800s. The mountain is very close to the site of a battle between Victorio and his band of warriors and the 9th US Cavalry in 1879. The Black Range mountains were one of the main strongholds of Victorio and his band. |
